What is a SFARK file?

SFARK is a compressed version of the SoundFont (SF2) format. It was created to reduce the size of SoundFont banks for easier storage and sharing, while preserving the original musical data. The name combines “SF2” and “archive.”

To use an SFARK file, it must be decompressed back into an SF2 file using dedicated tools. Although less common today, SFARK remains relevant among musicians and composers who work with SoundFont libraries.

How to open SFARK files

SFARK files must be decompressed using sfArk tools (available for Windows or through Wine on other systems). After decompression, you'll get a standard SF2 file.

Once extracted, the resulting SoundFont can be used in music software or converted using AnyConv if supported.
