Information about CBR and TXT file formats

Name CBR TXT
Full name Comic Book RARE File TXT - Raw text file
File extension .cbr .txt
MIME type application/x-cbr text/plain
Developed by Various Microsoft
Type of format eBook File Plain text
Description A .cbr file is a compressed file that allows a set of comic book images to be stored. These images can be ordered and the format in which they are displayed can be altered to allow two images to be viewed side by side, in the same way as a double page spread would occur. On most operating systems the name text file refers to file format that allows only plain text content with very little formatting (e.g., no bold or italic types). Such files can be viewed and edited on text terminals or in simple text editors.
Technical details A .cbr file is actually just a .rar file with an amended file extension. What makes a .cbr file different is that it can be opened directly by comic book viewer applications without a requirement to decompress it first. The user can also associate the file extension with a Comic Book Viewer application. Typical image formats are allowed for a .cbr file such as JPEG, GIFF, TIFF and PNG. Text file refers to a type of container, while plain text refers to a type of content. Text files can contain plain text, but they are not limited to such. At a generic level of description, there are two kinds of computer files: text files and binary files.
