🔸 Description Audio Video Interleaved (also Audio Video Interleave), known by its initials AVI, is a multimedia container format introduced by Microsoft in November 1992 as part of its Video for Windows software. AVI files can contain both audio and video data in a file container that allows synchronous audio-with-video playback. The Graphics Interchange Format (better known by its acronym GIF) is a bitmap image format introduced by CompuServe in 1987. It has since come into widespread usage on the World Wide Web due to its wide support and portability.
🔸 Technical details AVI is a derivative of the Resource Interchange File Format (RIFF), which divides a file's data into blocks, or "chunks." A FourCC tag identifies each "chunk". An AVI file takes the form of a single chunk in a RIFF formatted file, which is then subdivided into two mandatory "chunks" and one optional "chunk". GIF supports up to 8 bits per pixel for each image, allowing a single image to reference its palette of up to 256 different colors chosen from the 24-bit RGB color space. In addition, GIF images are compressed using the Lempel-Ziv-Welch (LZW) lossless data compression technique to reduce the file size without degrading the visual quality.
