|Portable Network Graphics (PNG) is a raster graphics file format that supports lossless data compression. PNG was created as an improved, non-patented replacement for Graphics Interchange Format (GIF) and is the most used lossless image compression format on the Internet. However, PNG itself does not support animation at all. MNG is an extension to PNG that does. Members of the PNG Group designed it.
|Files that Have the HDR extension are raster image files saved in the High Dynamic Range format. This format is most commonly used for digital photos. Images saved as HDR images are used for enhancing images and photos concerning color and brightness. Users can quickly fix washed-out areas, shadows, and other dynamics in HDR images.
|🔸 Technical details
|PNG supports palette-based images (with palettes of 24-bit RGB or 32-bit RGBA colors), grayscale images (with or without alpha channel), and full-color non-palette-based RGB[A] images (with or without alpha channel). However, PNG was designed for transferring images on the Internet, not for professional-quality print graphics, and therefore does not support non-RGB color spaces such as CMYK.
|The pixel values of an HDR file can cover the whole tonal spectrum present in the real world. Moreover, HDR images can display the largest possible range of pixel values. Thus, direct light, sunshine, and extreme shadows can be captured with a life-like portrayal of colors. HDR images can be created by merging different photographs in a specific way, using special image sensors, or via computer rendering.
