Information about OXPS and JPG file formats
|Full name||OXPS - Open XML Paper Specification||JPG - Joint Photographic Experts Group|
|File extension||.oxps||.jpg, .jpeg, .jpe|
|Developed by||Microsoft, Ecma International||Joint Photographic Experts Group|
|Type of format||Document file format||lossy image format|
|Description||Open XML Paper Specification (also referred to as OpenXPS) is an open specification for a page description language and a fixed-document format. Microsoft developed it as the XML Paper Specification (XPS). In June 2009, Ecma International adopted it as international standard ECMA-388.||JPG is a commonly used method of lossy compression for digital images, particularly for those images produced by digital photography. The degree of compression can be adjusted, allowing a selectable tradeoff between storage size and image quality. JPG typically achieves 10:1 compression with little perceptible loss in image quality.|
|Technical details||It is an XML-based (more precisely XAML-based) specification, based on a new print path (print processing data representation and data flow) and a color-managed vector-based document format that supports device independence and resolution independence. In Windows 8 .xps was replaced with the ECMA standard .oxps format which is not natively supported in older Windows versions.||Image files that employ JPG compression are commonly called "JPG files", and are stored in variants of the JIF image format. Most image capture devices (such as digital cameras) that output JPG are actually creating files in the Exif format, the format that the camera industry has standardized on for metadata interchange.|
