In Microsoft Office 2007 the binary file formats were replaced as the default format by the new XML based Office Open XML formats. MPEG-4 Part 14 or MP4 is a digital multimedia format most commonly used to store video and audio, but can also be used to store other data such as subtitles and still images. Like most modern container formats, it allows streaming over the Internet.
Technical details The binary format specification has been available from Microsoft on request, but since February 2008 the .ppt format specification can be freely downloaded. Most kinds of data can be embedded in MPEG-4 Part 14 files through private streams. A separate hint track is used to include streaming information in the file.
