Information about CSV and JPG file formats
|Full name||CSV - Comma-Separated Values||JPG - Joint Photographic Experts Group|
|File extension||.csv||.jpg, .jpeg, .jpe|
|Developed by||Informational RFC||Joint Photographic Experts Group|
|Type of format||multi-platform, serial data streams||lossy image format|
|Description||In computing, a comma-separated values (CSV) file stores tabular data (numbers and text) in plain text. Each line of the file is a data record. Each record consists of one or more fields, separated by commas. The use of the comma as a field separator is the source of the name for this file format.||JPG is a commonly used method of lossy compression for digital images, particularly for those images produced by digital photography. The degree of compression can be adjusted, allowing a selectable tradeoff between storage size and image quality. JPG typically achieves 10:1 compression with little perceptible loss in image quality.|
|Technical details||The CSV file format is not standardized. The basic idea of separating fields with a comma is clear, but that idea gets complicated when the field data may also contain commas or even embedded line-breaks. CSV implementations may not handle such field data, or they may use quotation marks to surround the field.||Image files that employ JPG compression are commonly called "JPG files", and are stored in variants of the JIF image format. Most image capture devices (such as digital cameras) that output JPG are actually creating files in the Exif format, the format that the camera industry has standardized on for metadata interchange.|
